My feelings and Me Play Therapy

Play therapy

Let’s discover what makes play therapy one of the most effective and proven methods of communicating with children and how it can transform how they respond to the world around them.

What is Play Therapy, and how can it help?

Play Therapy is a method of helping children with behavioural and emotional problems. During the play therapy sessions, the children receive an opportunity to “play out” their feelings and problems. Play Therapy is beneficial for all children and helps them make sense of difficulties in their lives that they cannot change. It helps children understand complex experiences or upsetting feelings and gives them a

coping strategy when support may not be available.

Play Therapy is a method that uses the therapeutic powers of play to help children deal with their difficulties and achieve optimal development. Play therapy helps children with various emotional and behavioural challenges.

What does Play Therapy involve?

Play Therapists use play and creative arts as a language to communicate with children. Individual sessions can last up to 40 minutes. Sessions are held in a private room with cheerfully selected toys, sand trays, water, musical instruments, puppets, clay, art-and-crafts materials, general Therapeutic stories, and creative visualisations, created individually for each child.

The activities and types of play will be dictated by the client’s needs. In non-directive play therapy, the child leads, and the therapist follows.

The minimum of sessions a child should undertake is 12, and a review meeting takes place after eight sessions.
